Governor Ehrlich request major increase in state arts funding...
Maryland Citizens for the Arts reports that Governor Robert L.
Ehrlich announced that his Fiscal Year 2007 Budget for the Maryland
State Arts Council (MSAC) has an increase of $3.1 million. This
budget is nearly a 22% increase from FY 2006’s appropriation of
$11,280, 137. The increase will bring the budget allowance to an
amount over $14 million. Within the next 7-10 days, Governor
Ehrlich will announce his overall FY 2007 Budget which will include
greater detail.
Over
the past few months, Maryland Citizens for the Arts championed an
aggressive advocacy campaign involving corporate leaders, arts
supporters and Maryland’s arts community directed at achieving an
increase of $6 million for the arts in Maryland to reach the goal of
funding 10% of qualified arts organizations’ operating budgets. It
is anticipated that the $3.l million will raise the percentage level
to at least 8 percent.

Maryland General Assembly Session convenes, January 11, your
